“When I bring my child to The Carpenter's Shop, I leave feeling
completely comfortable, knowing that for the next few hours, he will be
safe and happy; he'll be with people who truly care.”

Low Teacher
Turn-Over
I like the teacher stability at The Carpenter’s Shop. They have a low
turn-over rate which provides a great environment for my girls.”

Teddy Bear Room
Many of our graduates started as infants in
our Teddy Bear Room under the tender loving care of Ms. Z
and Ms. Laura. Their decades of "baby experience" are
hard to beat as they've pretty much seen and done it all!
Our Teachers: Ms. Z and Ms. Laura
Ms. Z
Ziyadah Mu-Min, affectionately known as "Ms Z",
is originally from Natchez, Mississippi, famous
for its Antebellum homes. This mother of
5 boys and grandmother of 9 has nurtured our
infants at the Carpenter's Shop since October
2000. Previously, she worked as a home healthcare
aide and activity specialist with Alzheimer
patients. Her hobbies include cooking, reading, and creating memory baskets.
Ms. Laura
Ms. Laura graduated from Concordia University and earned a teaching degree specializing in birth through grade 6. She joined Carpenter's Shop in 2002 after
working as a Kindergarten teaching assistant at
University School in Milwaukee and as a teacher in Kohl’s corporate
on-site child development center. She has
2 sons and 1 daughter.
What We Will Accomplish:
Crawl, walk by holding onto furniture or beginning to take
our own steps.
Hold bottles/sippy cups by
ourselves.
Eat finger foods such as cheese, crackers and Cheerios by
ourselves.
Know
our own name.
Sit up by
ourselves.
Explore
our environment.
Begin to
develop language.
Hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity.
Our Development:
Language:
We help the children learn language through our interaction with them during diapering, feeding time, and play time. The children learn to feel trust and confidence towards us with the soothing tone of our voices.
Fine Motor:
The development of hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity are important at this age level. Crawling, use of toys, teacher interaction and the introduction of finger foods in the later months all contribute towards this aspect of growth.
Gross Motor:
During this wonderful time of change and
growth, your child needs to be exposed to
large motor play. We have a wonderful “play”
area in the room where your child will begin
to explore the environment.
Daily Schedule:
The Teddy Bear Room has a flexible schedule according to your child’s needs. We change diapers every two hours unless needed more often.
And, we go for walks outdoors when weather permits.
